Safety culture - the number one priority of the CFL strategy

Safety is a constant concern, both for the CFL employees and for their customers and other stakeholders, by constantly promoting, sharing and nurturing the safety culture in order to achieve the goal of "0 accidents".

Vision: 0 workplace accidents
The CFL are moving towards an independent safety culture: a default integration of safety principles to prevent and avoid work-related accidents. This objective is in line with the CFL safety vision: "Vision 0 accidents - It's possible".

Ongoing assessment of safety culture
Dialogue and analysis of procedures, practices and other safety related incidents are essential to achieving this vision. CFL voluntarily participated in the survey conducted by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) to assess the safety culture within the European rail sector.

In addition, the CFL Group regularly has its safety culture assessed by the experts at dss+ (DuPont Sustainable Solutions). Field visits, interviews and observations by dss+ experts have resulted in a new snapshot of the maturity of CFL's safety culture. Awareness campaigns to promote safe behaviour around the tracks.

Awareness campaigns on respectful and safe behaviour in the railway environment are also aimed at target audiences, such as the "10 steps to rail cool" initiative (for secondary school pupils aged 12 to 14) and the "Kiddy Train Box" initiative to raise children's awareness.

For many years now (16th edition in 2024), on the occasion of ILCAD (International Level Crossing Awareness Day), the CFL have reminded drivers of all types of vehicles of the essential rules to be observed when crossing level crossings.
